Holiday Cottage Dunster
Step back into the Middle Ages...while enjoying modern home comforts.
Dating back to the 15th Century, this cosy self-catering holiday home in Dunster
has original cruck beams, oak screening, a stunning four-poster bed, wood burning
stove, stone floors and many more fascinating features.
The Oval is constructed of timbers some of which are more than 600 years old. Its
name is nothing to do with cricket – it’s a corruption of the word ‘hovel’, used
for any house in past times. It’s thrilling to explore and find marks on the wood
panelling that were made by the carpenters so long ago, or sleep in the stately
four-poster, just like Henry VIII.
"Thank you so much for sharing this most beautiful home. We have been blessed with
a week of sunshine so have been able to enjoy sitting out on the patio taking in
all the wonderful views. You have thought of everything, no detail has been missed.
We only ate out a few evenings because everything was
here we didn’t feel the need to go elsewhere. We enjoyed the walks up to Bats Castle,
Conygar Tower and The Arches and Porlock Weir is so tranquil and unspoilt. We enjoyed
sitting on the pebbles and looking out to sea. Lucy, you have made this the most
pleasurable family holiday we have had. Your home and Dunster are truly magical
– I feel like I’ve been to ‘Camelot’. We will definitely be returning – so sad to
be leaving."
